STAR-STUDDED MUBADALA WORLD TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD ON TARGET IN CROSSBAR CHALLENGE AT YAS MARINA CIRCUIT

December 15, 2022

With football fever gripping the region, seven of the world’s best tennis players warmed up for this weekend’s 14th Mubadala World Tennis Championship (MWTC), by trading forehands and free-kicks in a fun, yet fiercely competitive crossbar challenge in Abu Dhabi.

Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Cameron Norrie, Andrey Rublev, Borna Coric, Ons Jabeur, and Emma Raducanu took on the challenge on the track at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.

With their football goalpost target 20 metres away, the seven players were each given five chances to hit  the crossbar with a tennis ball using only their racquets. They were then challenged to switch sports by trying to strike a football against the crossbar. After a few near-misses, surprise strikes, and debatable decisions, Borna Coric emerged victorious after hitting the crossbar twice with a tennis ball and Stefanos Tsitispas was the only player who hit the target with a football.

To add a further football spin to proceedings, footballers Ali Almeamary and Abdulla Fadaq from UAE Pro League side Al Jazira joined in fun.
