Kids from across the UAE took over the opening day of the 12th Mubadala World Tennis Championship, with free entry and a host of fun activities with the world’s best tennis players leaving young spectators savouring “the best” day of their lives.

2019 ATP Finals champion Stefanos Tsitsipas kicked off the fun with a clinic for young tennis enthusiasts, sharing insights and advice before delivering a full house of high-fives.

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic followed Tsitsipas on to the clinic court, taking youngsters through a full repertoire of trick shots, while Ajla Tomljanovic warmed up for her match with Maria Sharapova by hosting a Q&A session with Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy in the Tennis Village.

As families soaked up the unique festival atmosphere, fans lined up to secure the signature of World No. 1 Rafael Nadal during the 19-time Grand Slam winner’s autograph session for the public.

“We were actually speechless when it came to our turn,” said Shamah Abdul Kader, an Abu Dhabi resident from India, who queued with her son Sameen for Nadal’s much-coveted autograph. “My son was so excited. He trains at the Zayed Sports City and loves his tennis.”

On Friday, December 20, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship promises another exciting day of action on and off the court. Alongside three top-class matches, Tsitsipas will entertain crowds when he swaps the International Tennis Centre court at Zayed Sports City for a live cooking stage, while Djokovic will host an autograph signing session in the Tennis Village.
