Today marked the start of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship’s (MWTC) 11th Edition – and saw future stars of the game given a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to train with the tournament’s star players.
Hosted by organisers FLASH Entertainment, The Tennis Village at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City, welcomed children as young as 10 to enjoy a morning of first-class training with superstar and world number two, Rafael Nadal and French Open Finalist, Dominic Thiem. The players took time out ahead of their matches to offer expert tips and advice, while putting tennis’ rising stars to the test. The stars then participated in an exclusive autograph signing in The Tennis Village, much to the delight of attendees.
The Championship provides fans unrivalled access to the world’s top tennis players and the coaching clinics have been designed to inspire the next generation of the sport.
And the action off court didn’t stop off there! Fans were treated to an interactive Q&A session with Australian legend and MWTC ambassador Pat Cash, who spoke to three-time ATP title winner Karen Khachanov and seven-time Grand Slam winner, Venus Williams. Attendees at the Village were also treated to a special Q&A session with top Emirati athletes including Fatima Alali (UAE Ice Hockey player), Zahra Lari (UAE Figure Skater), Fatima Alamri (UAE Basketball player) and Mariam Rashed Almansoori, Conference Specialist.
Throughout Day One of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, visitors also took part in various fun activities and tennis themed games at the Mubadala Interactive Zone. Exciting competitions were also on offer from key sponsors including Mercedes Benz, Highland Spring and Gatorade. And all this took place even before the on-court action had begun!
With all six men’s players including world number one Novak Djokovic and world number two Rafael Nadal in action and entertainment on until midnight, Day Two is certainly not to be missed. Designed to entice food lovers to the tournament, The Village will stage a live cooking show alongside defending MWTC champion Kevin Anderson and Pat Cash. Plus, there will be a meet and greet session with Novak Djokovic, as well as open picnic areas where fans can sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere while enjoying a delicious dish or two.
