SIX STARS. THREE DAYS. ONE CHAMP
The Mubadala World Tennis Championship, having just completed its fifth year, is one of the region’s most eagerly anticipated sporting event bringing six of the world’s top tennis players to the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex in Zayed Sports City.
The global tennis season starts here in Abu Dhabi with the world's best competing for the Championship title and USD $250,000 prize money. With six top ranked competitors of the world, the 2012 Mubadala World Tennis Championship was one of the most competitive years ever.
The 2012 line-up was one of the most competitive in the tournament's history which welcomed back World #3 Andy Murray who was looking to retain his 2009 title who however was overcome by World #1 and two year champion Novak Djokovic. The remainder of the field, included the fiery World #5 David Ferrer and World #6, Tomas Berdych rounded out with the competitive World #9 Janko Tipsarevic and World #11 Nicolas Almagro.
With pride at stake, rivalries were renewed when the global tennis icons played to a sold-out stadium of 5,000 plus spectators per day. Millions around the world tuned in to watch an event that is now firmly established on the global tennis calendar as one of the most admired tennis events.
Alongside the stars who competed last year at the three day event, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship featured a multitude of other attractions including a unique spectator village full of family-friendly interactive components and exciting activities to engage and entertain visitors.
Through community engagement initiatives like the Mubadala Community Cup and the Mubadala Tennis In Schools Programme, the Championship has quickly established itself as one of the premier events on the UAE event calendar while it works to raise awareness of the benefits of tennis and the importance of living an active healthy lifestyle, whilst leaving a legacy for the community beyond the tournament.
